Meet Wayne
Rocky Hill —Vacaville, California
Before moving into Rocky Hill Apartments, Wayne was living in a mobile home court in Vallejo. When the property changed ownership and rents rose dramatically, he could no longer afford to stay and faced the risk of homelessness. Wayne turned to Nation’s Finest—a Veterans’ service organization based in Vallejo—which helped him secure a home at Rocky Hill Apartments in Vacaville in October 2019. Filled with gratitude and excitement, he was eager to begin this new chapter.
Wayne describes Rocky Hill as “possibly the best place I could hope to find.” Having stable, affordable housing has given him the comfort and security he once thought he’d lost. He’s built meaningful friendships with fellow Veterans and neighbors and is grateful to be able to have his loyal dog, Lilly, by his side. The stability and sense of belonging have made a profound difference in his day-to-day life.
When asked about his favorite features of his apartment, Wayne points out the air conditioning and laundry facilities as true lifesavers. He’s also grateful for the consistent support from Resident Services, where he receives clothing, food, and other essentials that help thrive.
Today, Wayne is focused on the future. Surrounded by friends, supported by resources, and grounded in a safe and welcoming home, he’s looking forward to learning new hobbies and continuing to lend a hand to others in his community.
