Sergio and Esperanza have called Santa Ana home for over a decade. Upon discovering La Placita Cinco on social media, the pair inquired and moved into the vibrant community when it opened its doors in 2021. Grateful for the spaciousness of their new home compared to their previous living situation, they expressed a deep appreciation for the community they now belong to. They value the building’s new construction, and their apartment’s balcony.
Living at La Placita Cinco has enabled Sergio and Esperanza to forge connections with other families and households, facilitated by the diverse range of activities and services provided by Mercy House, the lead resident services provider. From community workout classes to arts and crafts events, the programming offered fosters a sense of connection and engagement between residents. The couple also utilizes health resources organized by Mercy House and other project partners, and actively participate in initiatives such as the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Sergio and Esperanza recognize the crucial role that affordable housing plays in stabilizing households, particularly in the face of rising living costs and rent increases and. The pair acknowledge that the affordable cost of housing has shielded them from deeper financial struggles. Looking ahead, Sergio and Esperanza aspire to own a home of their own in the Santa Ana area, while remaining committed to volunteering and supporting their community.
