Meet Ole

After losing his mobile home, Ole Hogan, an 81-year-old disabled veteran, spent nearly a decade living out of his car, on the street, and in motels.

In 2024, Ole met a VA specialist who helped him secure housing through Mesa Vista Apartments. Since his arrival, he has found comfort, stability, safety, and a sense of belonging in his new home. Ole enjoys walking around the community and connecting with his neighbors, often making sure they have enough food and are getting the help they need.

With case management support from Mercy House and assistance from the VA with navigating his bills, Ole can now focus on his health and daily routines. He aims to exercise more, learn to cook, keep his home tidy, and read.

“Now, I’m off the street and in a safe apartment. [I’ve] met some nice people here and one of the best things about being here is some of the greatest people at Mercy House where they treat me and everyone else as special people.”
