Meet Lila

Lila’s journey to Santiam Terrace, located within the Kaiser Trio community, began with a simple need for independence and a place to call her own. Living temporarily with her son and his friend, Lila sought a stable home where she could establish roots. After an exploratory drive around the area, she discovered Santiam Terrace, which seemed to fit her needs perfectly. Lila applied for an apartment and, shortly after, received the call that would begin her 24-year-long residency.

Santiam Terrace quickly became more than just a place to live—it turned into a community where Lila found convenience, companionship, and support. What has kept Lila at Santiam Terrace for nearly a quarter of a century is the central location, proximity to essential amenities, and the reliable public transportation system. Despite no longer driving, Lila can easily reach her bank, stores, and other necessary services by walking or taking the bus.

Residents like Lila and her friend Beverly, who share strikingly similar life experiences and a love for cats and music, illustrate the deep connections formed within the complex. Beverly, with her collection of old records and shared love for sparkles, finds joy in her friendship with Lila.

The on-site Resident Services Coordinator plays an instrumental role in fostering this close-knit community by organizing different community events, such as bingo, group gardening, and various social events to ensure residents have opportunities to interact and support one another. The community at Santiam Terrace is further enriched by the variety of activities and programs tailored to the residents’ interests and needs.

Lila’s story highlights her adaptability and the importance of community in her life. Her long-term residency at Santiam Terrace underscores the strong connections formed there and the quality of life in a supportive environment. As Lila approaches 24 years at Santiam Terrace, her experience illustrates the value of finding a place where one feels truly at home.
