Meet Carlos

Before moving into Lake House, Carlos was living at Home At Last, a shelter in downtown Los Angeles. In March 2024, he secured an apartment at Lake House and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to transition into permanent housing. His case manager at Home At Last supported him throughout the process, helping him relocate to a stable environment designed to meet his care and support needs.

Carlos had safety concerns at the shelter, and moving into Lake House helped ease those stressors. The change has had a positive impact on his life. He feels happier and more at peace, with greater mobility and easier access to grocery stores, community resources, and other nearby necessities. He has also formed friendships with other residents and enjoys having his own space, where his stepchildren can visit—deepening his sense of connection and belonging. When asked about his favorite part of the apartment, Carlos said he loves everything about it, but especially appreciates his bed. Being able to sleep soundly and wake up well-rested has been essential for his well-being.

Resident services at Lake House are led by The Center in Hollywood and include case management, community meetings, and access to supportive resources. Carlos regularly participates in these services to stay connected and reduce any feelings of isolation. He checks in weekly with his case manager, who provides consistent support and helpful recommendations. One of his favorite programs has been the art activities, which have become a way for Carlos to relieve stress.

Carlos is thankful for his home at Lake House. Having experienced homelessness in the past, access to affordable housing has given him the stability he needs. As he navigates this new chapter, he is focused on staying positive and finding joy in daily life.
