Meet Bryan

Bryan moved into The Orchard in 2024 following a period of medical challenges. Before his move, he stayed at a medical recuperation center, where he was able to manage his health needs. Through the center’s housing navigation services, Bryan secured a project-based voucher and was matched with a unit at The Orchard.

Not long after moving in, Bryan experienced a serious setback—a neck injury that required surgery and a long recovery. Having stable housing allowed him to receive consistent care for both his injury and ongoing oxygen deliveries, giving him the space to focus fully on healing. Although the recovery was difficult, it led to meaningful improvements in his overall health. Now, he makes it a point to bike every day as part of his routine.

Living at The Orchard has allowed Bryan to reconnect with his faith and rebuild his life after his injury. After being introduced to a local church, he now regularly attends services and Bible study, both of which have become meaningful parts of his life. He also participates in AA and volunteers five days a week in the on-site kitchen, where he is enrolled in line cook classes offered through Santa Ana College. He appreciates the stability and motivation that the structure and discipline of the kitchen environment provide. Bryan is also grateful for the food resources provided by Mercy House, which he relies on regularly.

His apartment is quiet and close to staff support, which has been especially helpful for his ongoing medical needs. The quiet surroundings and sense of safety have made it possible for Bryan to manage his health, store his medical supplies, and even prepare and freeze meals for the month ahead—none of which would have been possible while living unhoused. Today, Bryan is focused on staying healthy and actively engaged in his community. The Orchard has provided him with the safety, support, and connection he needs to continue to move forward.
