Meet Beth

Prior to finding her home at Las Flores, Beth faced several years of housing instability after the loss of her son. She was living in shelters, hotels, and at times sleeping in her van. With no income and ongoing health challenges, the prospect of safe, affordable housing often felt out of reach.

In 2024, Beth marked a new chapter in her life when she moved into Las Flores, an affordable apartment community in Oregon City. With the support of Hacienda CDC, Las Flores resident services, and permanent supportive vouchers, she secured a one-bedroom ADA apartment, becoming one of the first residents to call Las Flores home.

Her ground-floor apartment includes thoughtfully designed features—such as lowered cabinetry, a bathtub with safety rails, and an adjustable shower head—which have made a notable impact on her daily life.

Over time, Beth began connecting with her neighbors and building a supportive network. One of her favorite aspects of living at Las Flores is the close bonds she has built with other residents through Thanksgiving dinners, resource sharing, and small acts of kindness. She has found strong companionship among the women in the community, who she describes as authentic and supportive.

Beth’s experience at Las Flores has been overwhelmingly positive: she appreciates the independence of having her own space, the calm atmosphere of her apartment, and the opportunity to contribute to a community where people look out for one another. “I love my apartment…[It’s] my own space.”
